  • The different ways of commuting and getting around North texas
  • What to do while in the DFW Metroplex
  • Some important insights and information from a born and raised North Texan

DALLAS OVERVIEW

Let’s start with the larger of the two major cities; Dallas.
Dallas alone has 1.3 million residents which makes up over 17% of the whole North Texas population.

MAJOR CITIES

The major cities that are of note around Dallas are starting North of Dallas going clockwise till we get to the west are as follows:

Denton, Lewisville, Flower Mound, Carrollton, Frisco, Plano, Allen, McKinney,  Richardson, Garland, Mesquite, Rowlett,  Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Arlington, and, Irving

These 16 cities have the highest populations and are home to some major corporations and attractions.

TRANSPORTATION/ ROADS

Now that we know the major cities I want to highlight the major transportation and roads that are commonly referred to when finding directions around the Dallas area.

The public transportation that are used around these areas are the train known as the DART (Dallas Area Rapid Transit)
and DCTA( Denton County Transit Authority) Lines. Also, buses from the DART and DCTA are used regularly as well. I will place a website that shows the DART as well as the DCTA schedules if you would like to know more about those services”

Now the major are also key factors because the majority of people who live here transit via car. If you are not used to driving 30 mins to get somewhere then well maybe you need to or just do not move here. It is normal to drive 30-45 mins to get anywhere. Starting with the major road that goes North and South there is 35E,45, and 75. Going East and West there is I 30, I 20, 635, and 121. Now there are A Lot of Toll roads here which cost money to drive on but are sometimes worth it to beat traffic. The two major ones are the Dallas North Tollway (DNT )and President George Bush Tollway (PGBT)

ATTRACTIONS

Alright now that we know of to get around the Dallas area let me tell you of some major attractions or places that you most likely will be traveling too.

Starting again up north. You have Denton; Home to Colleges of North Texas University and Texas Women University. The
Plano and Frisco are home to many companies headquarters such as

Bank of America, Ericsson. FedEx, Capital One, Intuit, PepsiCo, Pizza Hut, Toyota, and many more. You may hear Frisco and Plano lumped together often due to their proximity to one another.

Then we go over to Arlington which is what I call the entertainment capital of North Texas. You have six flags over Texas, The AT&T stadium and the Ranger Stadium.

FORT-WORTH OVERVIEW

Now that we have Dallas covered let’s move on the Fort Worth side.

Sitting at just under a million the city alone is home to 956,709 people. With many others living in surrounding suburbs. While Dallas may have more people Fort-Worth is technically larger in terms of square miles and personally you can tell. I feel that Fort-Worth is not as dense as Dallas and has definitely more of a laid back kind of feel compared to Dallas hustle bustle of the corporate ladder chasers.

MAJOR CITIES

Overview the same way we did Dallas lets start with the major cities surrounding Fort-Worth.

You have: Justin, Argyle, Roanoke, Keller, North Richland Hills, Crowley, Weatherford, and Saginaw.

Now I did not mention 3 cities that are popular because they have their own section called the HEB area. Which stand for the 3 cities known as Hurst, Euless and Bedford. You will hear the term HEB and this is what that is.

TRANSPORTATION/ ROADS

Now that we know the major cities, how do we get from one to the other? Well the main public way of transport in the fort-worth area is the Trinity Metro AKA the TEXRail.
The only road to be aware of that runs north and south is 35W. Now this may get confusing because we talked about 35 E in Dallas but know that this is a completely different road and will take you to completely different areas. Now you have more roads that go east and west to people trying to get over to the Dallas side of North Texas. You have I30, 121 and 820.

ATTRACTIONS

Now there is lots to do on this side of the DFW metroplex. I will state that most of the things will be in Fort-worth and the surrounding cities are mostly just suburbs and do not have too many attractions.

Fort-Worth has the famous Stock Yards that has a rich history and is so much fun. Every February there is the Stockyard Rodeo which is worth a visit. Fort-Worth is home to the popular school TCU which has many sporting events to attend. There are also many museums and cultural buildings to check out as well.
